Hot Tub & Spa Removal in Meridian & the Treasure Valley

A full-size hot tub can weigh several hundred pounds even before you factor in the water, and most aren't built to come apart easily. Between draining, disconnecting, and breaking down the cabinet and shell, it's a job that usually needs more than one set of hands — and the wrong approach can damage a deck or driveway on the way out.

We handle the whole process: draining the tub, taking it apart on-site, and hauling every piece away, so all that's left behind is an empty spot where it used to sit.

Draining. A typical six- to eight-person spa holds 300 to 500 gallons — call it 2,500 to 4,000 pounds of water that has to be somewhere else before anything moves. We bring a pump. Where the water goes matters more than people expect: Meridian's rules are that chlorinated or brominated spa water may not go into the sanitary sewer or any stormwater system without neutralising the pH and getting approval first, though most private single-family spas can be drained onto your own lawn and landscaping as long as it stays on your property. If you stop adding chemicals three or four days before we come, the water is far easier to deal with.

Power. Almost every full-size tub is hardwired to a dedicated 240-volt GFCI spa panel rather than plugged into an outlet. The breaker goes off before anyone touches anything. We are not electricians and we will not pretend to be — if your tub is hardwired, have a licensed electrician disconnect it. It is a short, cheap visit and it is the one part of this job worth doing properly.

Breaking it down. The cover comes off first, and a waterlogged cover on its own can run over a hundred pounds. Then the side panels, then the shell gets cut into sections. That last part throws acrylic and fibreglass dust, which is why it is done with a respirator and eye protection rather than enthusiasm.

Hauling. Shell, frame, foam insulation, plumbing, the pump and heater assembly, the cover, the steps, and the wooden surround if you want it gone. It leaves in pieces, in one visit.

What is left. The pad, swept. If you also want the concrete pad itself or the deck framing removed, tell us when you get your quote — concrete is priced by weight rather than by volume, so it is a separate number rather than something we can fold in.

Hot tub removal sits at the top of our price table. Most jobs land at $475 to $550, and genuinely difficult access can push past that. We would rather put the real number here than advertise a teaser price and revise it in your driveway.

Here is the arithmetic behind it. An empty six- to eight-person tub is roughly 700 to 1,000 pounds of material once the water is out, and in pieces it fills the trailer on its own — there is no room left to combine it with another job. It is normally two to four hours on site with two people, and it usually means renting the larger dump trailer for the day. That is why a hot tub costs what a full trailer load costs, because that is exactly what it is.

What moves the number up or down: how big the unit is (a two-person spa is a different animal from an eight-person swim spa), whether we can get a trailer near it, gate width, stairs, whether it is on a raised or second-storey deck, and whether the steps, surround and pad are going too.

What brings it down: draining it yourself beforehand, and having the electrical already disconnected. Both save real time on site. Mention it when you ask for a quote and it comes off the number rather than disappearing into it.

Listing it free on Craigslist or Marketplace works about one time in ten. What usually happens is that two or three people say they will come, one turns up without a trailer or a saw, and the tub is still in your yard a month later — except now it has been half dismantled.

Scrappers are a real option, but understand the deal: they want the pump, the heater and the metal frame. The acrylic shell has no scrap value, so it is common to end up with the valuable parts gone and the heaviest, most awkward 600 pounds still sitting there.

Municipal large-item pickup will not solve this either. Boise's free bulky item programme is built around furniture and appliances set at the curb — a hot tub is not on that list, and it is not something two people carry out to the kerb in the first place.

And the landfill will take it, if you can get it there. Ada County charges by weight, so the disposal itself is not the expensive part — getting a 900-pound object cut up, loaded and driven there is. That labour is the cost, whoever does it.

We handle portable and cabinet-style hot tubs as standard work. Swim spas are doable but they are larger and heavier than a standard tub and usually need to be quoted from photos rather than over the phone.

In-ground and custom built-in installations are a different job — often there is tile, coping, a concrete surround, or plumbing running under a deck. Call us and describe it before assuming either way.

Awkward access is normal rather than exceptional. Tubs behind a six-foot gate, tubs on raised decks, tubs in a side yard with three feet of clearance, tubs that were craned in before the fence went up.
